Mr. Zia Mafaher, CIO

Ziaeddin Mafaher is the Chief Information Officer and the Executive Director of the Center for Planning and Information Technology. The Center serves the University by providing access to high quality, state-of-the-art computing, communications and information resources through the Internet, local and wide area networks, databases and libraries, and by supporting the management information needs of the University. The Center is the resource for data analysis and institutional studies, while also serving to coordinate the collection and submission of information to internal and external constituencies.

Mr. Mafaher received his Bachelor's degree in Management from Tehran University, his Master's degree in Management from Southeastern Oklahoma State University and a Master's degree in Engineering from The Catholic University of America.

Mr. Mafaher has an extensive industrial and educational technology background. He worked for Information Consultants Incorporated based in Washington DC as a Systems Engineer in early 1980s, directing the technology operations and providing strategic leadership in information technology, especially in national X.25 networks and computer systems engineering. He served as a technology liaison at ICI for several NOAA projects. He joined Catholic University in 1987. He designed and implemented the University’s gigabit network backbone and was responsible for successful implementation of ERP systems. He extensively worked and collaborated with Washington area universities, including Georgetown University which he served as Associate Director for Academic Services in 1995, supporting academic offices with advanced networks, systems and educational technologies. He served as Director of Information Technology at Catholic University from 1996 to 2001 and he was appointed as the Chief Information Officer in 2002.

Mr. Mafaher is a member of several IT committees including SURA and MAX. He is also a member of Educause, Internet2 and the CIO Executive Council.
