Transferring Contacts into Cardinal Mail
If you have a list of Contacts in CUA webmail (Outlook Web Access) that you want to transfer to Cardinal Mail, you can use Microsoft Outlook to do this.
Step 1 - Configure Microsoft Outlook
To transfer your contacts into Cardinal Mail, you need to export them from CUA webmail. While the webmail interface does not provide a way to do this, Microsoft Outlook does. You will need to use Microsoft Outlook on one of the campus lab computers. You can't do this from Microsoft Outlook in your residence hall, for example.
This section describes how to set up Microsoft Outlook 2007 and 2003 to access your CUA webmail data. Most lab computers have Outlook 2007 installed.
If Outlook is already set up to access your CUA network logon account, you can skip this step.
Outlook 2007
- Open Outlook 2007. You are prompted, "Would you like to configure e-mail settings?" Select Yes and click Next.
- Select the option "Configure manually" and click Next.
- You are asked what type you would like to use. Choose Microsoft Exchange and click Next.
- In the "Microsoft Exchange server" box, enter mail01.cua.edu.
- Uncheck the option "Use Cached Exchange Mode".
- In the User Name box, enter your CUA network logon username, e.g., 00SMITH. Click Check Name to confirm your username.
- Then click Finish.
- You may see a message box that asks: "The Common Feed List in Microsoft Windows maintains one synchronized list of RSS Feeds. Do you want your RSS Feeds in Outlook to be synchronized with the Common Feed List?" Click No.
- Another message box may display this message: "Windows Desktop Search is not currently installed or not up to date. Outlook will not be able to provide fast search results when using the new Instant Search functionality unless this Windows component is installed." Click OK.
Step 2 - Exporting Contacts from Outlook
To export your contacts from Microsoft Outlook into a file,
- Within Microsoft Outlook, use menu command File, Import and Export...
- Highlight action "Export to a file" and click Next.
- Highlight file type "Comma Separated Values (Windows)" and click Next.
- Highlight the Contacts folder in the tree menu and click Next.
- When prompted to save export file as, click Browse to navigate to the location in which you would like to save the file (M:\ is suggested), type the file name and click OK. The path and name of the file appears in the save export file as box. Verify that it is correct, and click Next.
- Verify that "Export "Contacts" from folder: Contacts" is the selected action, and click Finish.
Your CUA webmail contacts are exported to the file that you specified.
Step 3 - Importing Contacts into Cardinal Mail
To import the contact list into Cardinal Mail,
- Sign onto your Cardinal Mail account.
- Click the Contacts link in the left side navigation list.
- Click Import on the upper right side of the Contacts box.
- Browse and find the file you saved in the previous step.
- If you would like to create a specific group to which these contacts should be added, check the "Also add these imported contacts to" box.
- Click Import
