What is a ListServ mailing list?

A mailing list allows one email address to be set up to send to multiple recipients. For example, you could have have a list called PsychMajors and have it populated with all majors in Psychology. The email could be called When you send a message to this address all subscribers would receive a copy. This list can be open so that anyone can send e-mail to the list, or private so that only subscribers can send to the list. CUA uses L-Soft LISTSERV as its list server. The difference? The mailing list is the more popular approach. You as the list owner can control the subscribers of this list without putting in a request to Technology Services.
