Network Account

CUA provides a high-speed campus backbone that is multiply connected to both the commodity Internet and to Internet-2, a network linking major research universities and government agencies.  Network jacks are available in most campus rooms allowing you to connect to this backbone. In addition, many locations are now wireless enabled, permitting you to connect with a laptop or PDA. You do not need an account to use the Internet from our network, but you will need an account to use other services such as printing and file sharing.

How do I log into my computer on campus?
All faculty have two accounts at CUA. The first account is your Cardinal Station account for use exclusively at cardinalstation.cua.edu. The second is your network logon account that is used for everything else: lab computers, email, home.cua.edu, Blackboard, and more.

I am a new faculty member. How do I get a network logon username and password?
Network logon accounts are created automatically when your faculty HR information is entered by the Office of the Provost, but you must call or visit the CPIT Information Center to have your account activated. You will be told your network username and password at that time.

How do I access my email from off campus?
Your CUA e-mail is available to you anywhere on the Internet by using the CUA Webmail interface.

Is there wireless available on campus?
Some buildings and dorms do have wireless access. To see a list of current wireless points please visit out Wireless Network Access Page. We are working to have the entire campus wireless, so please check the site for updates.

How do I access the network from off campus?
A variety of methods have been created to allow faculty and staff to carry out important duties while away from campus.  To the extent possible, web-based interfaces have been provided for academic systems, including access to your network files and web pages.  See Accessing CUA Resources from off-campus for more details.

How can a colleague at a sister institution gain access to network resources?
Depending on the resource (e.g., web page, temporary use of lab machines), an account can be requested through the director of Academic Technology Services, or by contacting the CPIT help desk.
