Keep Your Computer Safe

It is very important to do all three of these steps before you use your computer to browse the Internet!

  1. Install FREE University-provided McAfee VirusScan antivirus software.
  2. Install the latest Microsoft Updates.
    • Open Internet Explorer
    • Select "Tools" from the menu
    • Select "Windows Update"
    • Follow the instructions on the page that opens

  3. Enable your computer's software firewall.
    • From the Start menu, open Control Panel
    • Open Security Center
    • Click on "Windows Firewall"
    • If the firewall is not On, follow the instructions to turn it On

For additional steps that you can take to protect your computer, please read "Safe Computing Practices" in the security section of the computing.cua.edu web site.
