Mobile Phone Use in Opus Hall
Residents of Opus Hall are able to send and receive cellular telephone calls on their mobile phones throughout the building as of late July 2009.
Using a Mobile Phone in Opus Hall
Mobile phone signal strength depends on your carrier, location of cell tower, mobile phone model, as well as the building you are in. So coverage will differ from phone to phone, even from the exact same location. In July 2009, an antenna system was installed in Opus Hall that enabled sending and receiving cellular telephone calls throughout the building, not just near the edges of rooms.
Students with smart phones should note that Opus Hall is equipped with 802.11g wireless networking. This should be used for data access from your WiFi-capable smart phone. You will need to register your smart phone with the Residential Network Registration system using your phone's web browser.
Fixed-line Phone Service
Students should also be aware that that each suite room in Opus Hall has fixed-line ("landline") local calling telephone service. Each suite has an assigned telephone number shared by all rooms in that suite. Your move in packet lists your suite's telephone number. You can purchase an inexpensive telephone at Best Buy, Radio Shack or other electronics store if you want to make use of this service.
Additional information about using the fixed-line phone service in your suite, including how you can sign up online for a long distance calling card through PAETEC, is located on the ResNet web site.
