Registering your game console MAC address
for ResNet access

If you use a network-enabled video game console such as the Sony PlayStation or Microsoft Xbox, you must submit an online service request to register your console prior to network use. To do this, you first need to know the network media access control (MAC) address of the game console.

MAC Addresses

Each network adaptor has a unique network identifier called the media access control (MAC) address.

MAC addresses consist of twelve hexadecimal (base 16) digits, and usually appear in printed format as 01:23:45:67:89:ab, 01-23-45-67-89-ab or 0123456789ab.

Often the MAC address is printed on the back or bottom of a network device.  For video game consoles, you usually find the MAC address by using menus in the console software.

Examples

Finding the MAC Address on a Sony PlayStation 2

To find the MAC address on a Sony PlayStation 2, load the Network Adaptor Startup Disc. Select "ISP Setup" and agree to the License Agreement. Select "Local Area Network (LAN)" as the connection type. Select "Automatic Configuration", then "Advanced" to reach the Advanced Broadband Settings screen.  Make sure "Automatic" is selected on this screen.  The MAC address appears at the bottom of the list on this screen in format 01:23:45:67:89:ab.

Finding the MAC Address on a Microsoft Xbox 360

To find the MAC address on a Microsoft Xbox 360, from the Xbox Dashboard, navigate to the System tab.  Select Network Settings, then Edit Settings, then navigate to the Additional Settings tab.  Select the Advanced Settings section. The "Wired MAC Address" value appears in the bottom left corner on this screen in format 0123456789AB.

Submit an OUCH ticket requesting registration

Write down the MAC address of your game console, then create an online service request.  On the request web form, select Type "ResNet" and Subtype "Game Console".  Include the MAC address of your game console in the text of your request and state that you wish to have your console registered for ResNet access.

Double-check your MAC address before submitting the request.  If it's not specified correctly in the request, you will not be able to access the network from your game console.
