Phone Services
College Life can be complicated. You shouldn't have to worry about your telephone service. That's why your Residence Hall Association (RHA) and Housing and Residential Services (HRS) have installed an easy to use residential telephone system with a dependable local and long distance calling service.
Set Up and Local Calling
All residence hall rooms are equipped with one or more telephone voice ports that connect to the same telephone number. In your move-in packet, you will find information on your specific telephone number.
Setting up your telephone for CUA's phone system is as easy as plugging your telephone into the blue port in the room.
Residents can call on-campus directly to other rooms, offices and services by dialing the last four digits of the phone exchange.
All other local calling is done by dialing 9 to get an outside line. Please note that in Maryland and Virginia, you must use the three digit area code when dialing. Washington DC is a local call, and does not require the area code.
Long Distance and International Calling
Long distance calling is provided through Paetec. Students must complete an application to receive a Paetec calling card. There is a brochure in your packet that outlines these services as well as how to sign up. To place a long distance call using your Paetec calling card authorization code, follow these steps.
- Dial the access code for long distance: 7
- Wait for the second dial tone.
- Dial the number you are calling: 1 + area code + phone number for domestic calls or
011 + country code + city code + phone number for international calls
- Wait for the tone, and then dial your seven digit authorization code.
