Installing the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats

University employees whose computer is running an older version of Microsoft Office (2000, 2003) can install the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats to allow their version of Office to read and write Office 2007 format files.

  1. Add a new program by using Start, Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs.

  2. Select "Add New Programs" from the list on the left.  Wait for the search to complete; it may take several minutes.

  3. Highlight "Compatibility Pack for the 2007 Office System" and click Add.

The compatibility pack installs and progress messages are displayed.

  4. When the install is complete, a success message is displayed.  Click OK to dismiss it.

Installing the Compatibility Pack on personally-owned computers

The method above works only on university-owned computers on the campus network that are in the CUA domain.  To install the pack on your personally-owned computer for which you are the administrator, download the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats from Microsoft and install it.
