Beyond Learning Management Systems

Catholic University currently supports the Learning Management Sytems, Blackboard.  This system is designed to allow an instructor to post a syllabus, lesson material, course documents, and related material to a secure and restricted web site.  Students are granted access to this site for the duration of the course, and allowed to access the course materials from their Internet browser at any time of day or night.  Optional threaded discussion forums and chatrooms can be added to a course, and online quizzes or assignments can be constructed and evaluated entirely through the any interface.

CPIT can assist you in setting up a course area, and provides training and advice on how to best use either tool to enhance and complement your classroom work.

For assistance, please contact Ms. Lisa Hawkins at 202-319-4768 or Dr. Saiid Ganjalizadeh at 202-319-6411 or submit a Help request form.

Using Microsoft 2007

Are you having trouble finding where your favorite Microsoft Office 2003 commands are located in Office 2007?

Do you need a quick course in how to use the new Microsoft Office 2007 interface?

Online Interactive Guides

Microsoft has created interactive guides to help you easily learn where Office 2007 commands are located. When you run the guide, it displays the familiar Office 2003 interface.  You select a command, and the guide shows you where that command is located in the Office 2007 interface!  You can look up as many commands as you want.  (The guides require the use of Adobe Flash.)

Excel 2003 to Excel 2007

PowerPoint 2003 to PowerPoint 2007

Outlook 2003 to Outlook 2007

All Guides

In addition to the interactive guides, Microsoft has created a spreadsheet ("mapping workbook") for each application that lists all Office 2003 menu and toolbar commands and their locations in Office 2007. When you open the workbook, you can then browse it, search it, customize it and/or save on your computer. The first tab of each workbook provides tips for using it.

"Up to Speed" Online Tutorials

Microsoft has made available a free "Up to Speed" self-paced tutorial for each of the Office 2007 applications. The tutorial shows you how to do the things you've always been able to do with that application, and introduces you to some of the new features. Each "Up to Speed" tutorial takes about 40 minutes.
